MARTIN Lewis’ wife Lara has revealed she secretly underwent a hysterectomy last week.
After a painful health battle with a painful condition, Lara Lewington, 47, has shared a snap from her hospital bed after undergoing the procedure to remove her womb.

Sharing the snap online, Lara penned in the caption: “Ten days ago I had a hysterectomy after a rollercoaster with adenomyosis, the lesser known sibling of endometriosis, a condition that on average takes 9.4 years for diagnosis.
“And one I’ve interviewed several tech companies and researchers about, as they grapple with the challenge of better, often AI powered, methods.”

According to the NHS, adenomyosis is a condition where the lining of the womb (uterus) “starts growing into the muscle in the wall of the womb”. In her post about the ordeal, Lara added: “And as a tech journalist, specialising in health I put my devices straight back on after surgery, and am watching data on my recovery unfold.
“They are not medical devices – albeit some have some medical grade sensors – but they do allow us to track something we otherwise couldn’t.”

Lara went on: “I could see my body’s stress, what a short walk did to my heart rate during recovery, and sometimes when my body showed signs of strain but there was a lot a device doesn’t notice.
“Pain, tiredness, and the fact I didn’t feel ready for anything beyond being slumped on the sofa (despite my impressive readiness score tempered by a symptom radar alert).
“I’m interested to see how all this data looks over the next weeks as I both lose fitness (frustrating reality whilst all I can do is walk) and recover.”She then mentioned a study she knows that is taking place at the moment which “looks at retrospective activity tracker from joint replacement patients to get a better idea of realistic recovery”.“Increasingly wearables data is being taken into consideration for diagnosis and management, it’s not perfect, but it’s better than nothing,” she said.
“On heart rate the mainstream devices tend to be very good, leading many to get much needed diagnoses from doctors on heart conditions.
“One fit 19-year-old I spoke to felt she owed her life to her wearable after insisting on medical help given her readings (turned out she had double pneumonia, covid and sepsis).”
She later concluded her post by saying: “P.s. I’m recovering really well and excited about new project kicking off next month, more soon! Back to work tomorrow in the meantime.”
What is adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis happens when the bits of tissue that line the uterus – known as the endometrium – grows into the muscle layer of the womb.
Like endometriosis and PCOS, it is thought to affect 1 in 10 women.
It can cause feelings of fullness or bloating which means women with the condition are often misdiagnosed as having irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
As it can lead to excess bleeding, women are also at risk of becoming anaemic.
Fans flocked to the comment section to wish Lara well, with one person writing: “Wishing you well and a swift recovery.”
“Hi Lara hope you make a speedy recovery and take it easy,” said another.
“It’s good news that you’re listening to your body and resting when you need to. Hope you feel better soon,” penned a third.
Lara has been married to Martin for over 14 years and is well-known as a former presenter for Channel 5 weather, Five News, Jattvibe, and co-host of the BBC technology show Click.
She and Martin share a daughter named Sapphire, who was born in 2012.
When she was born, Martin wrote a blog post, saying: “Her name is Sapphire Susan Lewis and while she weighs a wee 6lb 6oz, her weight in joy is immeasurable.
“Last night was her first one at home and it was quite exhausting (I think she’s operating in a US time zone for some reason), though worth every second.”
