A HUGE inferno has ripped through a historic mill used for filming scenes in Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey.

Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles after the blaze erupted at the building in Keighley, West Yorkshire, this evening.

Footage shows flames licking the roof of Dalton Mills as an orange glow illuminates the night sky.

Dozens of firefighters have been scrambled to the fire, which is believed to have erupted at around 8pm.

Residents are being evacuated as the blaze continues to ravage the Grade II-listed former textile mill.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (WYFR) confirmed 12 fire engines are battling the fire.

One eyewitness described seeing swathes of smoke as they drove along the nearby A650.

They told the Telegraph and Argus: “I was driving down the A650 and I could just see all this smoke.

“I pulled over to have a look and I couldn’t believe the size of the fire.

“It’s unbelievable.”

The mill – which appeared in huge shows such as Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey – was constructed in 1869.

It has suffered a string of major fires over the years, the first erupting in 2011.

Another blaze broke out in March 2022, when more than 100 firefighters and 20 fire engines tackled the inferno.

Another fire devasted the mill in July 2025, with 12 fire engines sent to the scene.

WYFR said: “Due to the severity of the incident and the potential risk to residents… a number of nearby residents are now being evacuated.

“Local Authority Emergency Planning officers are on scene and are providing support and guidance to those affected by the evacuation.

“If you are impacted, Local Authority Emergency Planning teams will communicate directly with you and provide further information and advice.

“We would like to thank residents for their cooperation and patience while our crews continue to tackle this incident.”
