HUGE wildfires have been raging through a Spanish holiday hotspot – forcing at least 12,000 people to take shelter.
Around 750 hectares of forest near the Costa Brava has gone up in flames, sending up plumes of thick smoke amid a record-breaking heatwave.

Terrifying infernos in the popular tourist destination were fanned by strong winds.
The Costa Brava blaze started on Saturday morning near the northeastern municipality of La Bisbal d’Emporda, 20 kilometres from the picturesque coastline.
Powerful gusts whipped up the fire and prompted Catalan authorities to order locals in 10 municipalities to stay at home,
Residents in Empordà area have been sent preventive confinement orders affecting around 12,000 people.
