MICHAEL CARRICK admits “clarity” is needed on the Manchester United manager’s job.
Carrick has secured ten wins from 14 games in charge since he was appointed head coach for the remainder of the season in January.

United have qualified for the Champions League and are all but certain to finish third in the Premier League.
Carrick, 44, remains the firm favourite to be named United’s permanent head coach and the club intend to make a final decision after the final game of the season.
United’s campaign concludes at Brighton on May 24 but Carrick stressed the decision-making process was out of his hands.
“Listen, clarity is important,” Carick said. “I think moving forward, it’s at the end of the season where I think we’ve finished strong, put ourselves in a good position.

“And obviously the situation of my role and what it looks like moving forward, I think it’s just the natural time.
“It was always (going to be) spoken about towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season.
“So nothing has really changed, to be honest.
“We have eyes on finishing the season strongly as well. So I understand the question, I understand the timing of it.

“But from my point of view, right at this stage, it’s just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly.
“And then, as I’ve said all along, I’m calm about it, it’ll get sorted out when it’s going to get sorted out.
“It’s out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”
Carrick reiterated he is still operating for the long-term rather than on a short-term basis.
The former Middlesbrough coach has been involved in discussions on recruitment and United tied down Kobbie Mainoo on a new long-term contract last week.
Mainoo, 21, rejected United’s opening offer last year and requested to leave on loan in August after he was an unused substitute in a 1-1 draw away to Fulham.

A number of United players have voiced their hope that Carrick will remain in charge beyond this season.
“I’ve said from the start I’ve never approached a day here with any short-term decisions,” Carrick added.
“Whether that is different to the outlook from others I don’t know.
“But from myself and the staff we’ve made decisions for the long-term, with the group and individual players, how we treat them and try to help develop them.
“So I don’t think we would change the approach about how we go about things.
“It might be for other people looking towards me – whether that is players, supporters or media.
“I don’t know how that changes. Maybe we’ll get to see.
“From my point of view, I’ve gone about it in a way I feel right to do it.”
