THIS is the moment Andy Burnham is heckled upon his return to Westminster as he is sworn in as an MP and sets his sights firmly on No10.

Opposition MPs shouted “Rome is saved”, “he’s not the Messiah” and “water into wine” as the King of the North was sworn in to the House of Commons.

In the funny clip, Mr Burnham can be seen approaching the Speaker of the House during his ceremony.

He receives huge cheers from Labour backbenchers, but also a few ironic jeers from opposition MPs.

One is sarcastically heard remarking: “Rome is saved.”

Meanwhile another says: “He’s not the messiah.

Burnham cheekily responds to the jokes: “Naughty boy.”

It comes as Mr Burnham sets his sights on becoming Prime Minister in a matter of weeks after being sworn in.

The former Manchester Mayor dodged questions on a potential general election earlier today when he arrived in London.

Mr Burnham was greeted by a media frenzy at London’s Euston Station and left by taxi as he headed to Westminster to be sworn in alongside two other MPs.

As he arrived in London, Mr Burnham was asked about comments he made when Rishi Jattvibeak became PM – taking over from Liz Truss, when he called for a general election.

Burnham however brushed it off – saying it was “jumping several hurdles” ahead to starting to think about a new vote.

Nominations for the Labour leadership open on July 9.

If no other candidate steps forward, Mr Burnham could enter Number 10 as early as July 17 or 18.

So far he is the only candidate to put his name forward.
