Manpreet Singh (32), a BA and NTT-qualified resident of Harike Kalan village in Muktsar district, allegedly died of “chitta” overdose on Thursday night. Villagers and family members have been staging a protest outside the house of a family they accuse of supplying drugs, demanding strict action against them and against some cops for their alleged failure, besides the demolition of the accused’s house under the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign. They have placed the body in a freezer to press for their demands.Deceased’s elder brother Jagmeet Singh claimed a syringe was found stuck in Manpreet’s arm.Muktsar SP (Investigation) Manmeet Singh Dhillon said a case had been registered at the Bariwala police station against five persons, including a woman, on the family’s complaint. He said two accused had been arrested, while efforts were on to nab others.Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana said the SP was verifying the allegations against the cops as well.
