Many rely on heavy-duty sprays, bleaches and specialised grill cleaners to banish grit and grime from their BBQs.
But one social media user suggested onions can get you the same results, without the harsh chemicals.
They advise to slice the ingredient in half and rub it down the length of the grill while it is still hot.
The juice of the onion creates a reaction with the heat, leaving hardened bits of grime to simply ‘melt’ off.

They added: “I learned this trick at a campground that did BBQ’s for 100+ people.”
The kitchen staple should be attached to a BBQ fork or prong though, to prevent potential burns.
Those who tried the trick have reacted positively, saying it was perfect for a quick clean.
One commented: “You’re a star, thanks so much. It works great.”
Another user added: “This is the way. Been doing so for years.”
The trick is also handy for those trying to pinch a few pennies this summer.
Onions are currently on sale for 30p in budget retailers like Aldi and Lidl, while affordable grill sprays range anywhere between £8 to £10.
