A gardener’s simple trick can get rid of the pesky algae in a matter of hours – and it’s affordable too.

It’s officially the season of moss, where the recent spell of damp, humid weather has created the perfect conditions for the algae to thrive.
But while the plant can be slimy, invasive and also a slip hazard on your drive – it’s also relatively easy to get rid of.

And according to one expert, author and lifelong gardener, Nancy Birtwhistle, the solution doesn’t have to be expensive either.
Sharing her tip on Instagram, Birtwhistle recommends first wetting your paving steps, patio or driveway with a can of rainwater.

Then she suggests sprinkling Soda Crystals directly onto the “problem areas”, targeting the spots with the most moss.
Once covered, scrub the area with a stiff yard brush – but don’t rinse it straight away.
As soon as it starts raining again – or after you have left it a few hours – the solution will work its magic, leaving you with “absolutely gorgeous” results using an “all natural” formula, she says.
And those who had tried the hack agree, with one follower commenting: “I’ve done this today! Amazing results.”
While another said: “Thanks, I’ve never cleaned the patio so easily. Works absolutely great.”
Available for just £1.79/1kg in B&M, the product won’t break the bank either.
Soda Crystals have long been a favourite for chemical-free cleaning as they do not contain any phosphates, enzymes, or bleach and are considered biodegradable.
But Dri-Pak does recommend exercising “care when rinsing off near ponds and other plant life”.
