BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi were among 16 members sworn in to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, with representatives from Haryana and Himachal Pradesh featuring in the fresh intake.Vice-President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath to newly elected and re-elected members from Bihar, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana.Of the 16 members, eight are from the BJP, three from its allies and five from the Congress.Nabin, who recently assumed charge as the BJP national president, entered the Upper House after resigning from the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He took the oath in Hindi amid desk-thumping by members.Thakur, re-elected from Bihar, was also sworn in, along with Upendra Kushwaha (RLM) and Shivesh Kumar (BJP) from the state.From Assam, Terash Gowalla, Jogen Mohan (both BJP) and Pramod Boro (UPP-L) took oath. Chhattisgarh was represented by Laxmi Verma (BJP) and Phulo Devi Netam (Congress).From Haryana, Karamvir Singh Boudh (Congress) and Sanjay Bhatia (BJP) took oath, along with Himachal Pradesh’s Anurag Sharma (Congress).Telangana was represented by Singhvi and Vem Narendra Reddy (both Congress), while Sujeet Kumar (BJP) from Odisha and Vinod Tawde from Maharashtra also took oath.The Rajya Sabha was later adjourned for the day without transacting legislative business.After the swearing-in, the House observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on April 12 at the age of 92 in Mumbai, and senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Mohsina Kidwai, who died on April 8 at 94.
