Two months after his unpublished book sparked a storm in Parliament, former Army Chief Gen MM Naravane on Friday said no copies of the book are in circulation.He was referring to “Four Stars of Destiny”, which remains unpublished due to pending clearance from the Ministry of Defence.The book triggered a heated political row after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi cited its contents in Parliament, referring to its “sensitive” details on the 2020 standoff with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the Agnipath scheme.Addressing the controversy, Naravane said the publisher, Penguin Random House India, had clarified that no copies of the book were in circulation “in any form whatsoever”.According to ANI, he added, “We ourselves are not in a position to comment on where that copy might have surfaced from.”Responding to the debate over his earlier remark that “not an inch has been lost to China”, Naravane said he stood by his statement.“At that time also, I had said there is no loss of territory. I stand by that statement even today… If somebody doesn’t want to believe it, that is his choice,” he said, adding that no amount of statements or evidence could convince those unwilling to accept it.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier countered Rahul in Parliament, stating that “the book being cited has not been published”. Rahul had based his remarks on excerpts published by Caravan magazine.The book was slated for release in January 2024, but the Ministry of Defence asked the publisher to hold publication. The draft remains under review.Naravane served as Army Chief from December 31, 2019, to April 30, 2022.
