The Amritsar police have seized 40.74 kg of heroin in the past two weeks. The seizure has underscored the scale of the trans-border smuggling rackets operating along the International Border. The police confiscated 5.04 kg of contraband following the interrogation of the accused who were arrested with over 30 kg heroin three days ago. A total of eight persons have been nabbed so far, including three juveniles and an Afghanistan national.Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the subsequent investigations into the seizure of over 30 kg heroin led to the arrest of Abhishek, alias Abhi, alias Bhindi and another juvenile. This helped the police trace additional links in the network.“Acting on leads, the police recovered 2 kg heroin from accused Kabir, alias Kaku, who is already arrested in the case and was allegedly working for a Dubai-based smuggler identified as Karan Chheharta,” he said, adding that the consignments were sent through drones and drop locations were shared with local operatives. The Police Commissioner said another haul of 3.03 kg heroin was recovered with the arrest of another suspect Vanshdeep Singh, a resident of Rangarh village. The seizure was made after the police responded to a road accident and searched the vehicle. Vanshdeep, who is undergoing treatment, will be arrested once declared medically fit, he said. Investigations also revealed his links with Dubai-based Chheharta. Vanshdeep had recently come out on bail.
