Pakistani terrorist Umar Haris, codenamed ‘Khargosh’, who allegedly fled India after obtaining a passport from Rajasthan by using forged documents, has been traced to Saudi Arabia. Sources said action was likely to be taken against the “officials concerned” to fix responsibility for his escape.Haris reached Saudi Arabia via Southeast Asia, the sources confirmed.The sources said “significant action” was likely to be taken after investigating the reasons how Khargosh managed to escape by obtaining an Indian passport.On April 10, The Tribune first reported that the J&K Police, which had unearthed an interstate terror module, found that Khargosh had fled India.The police’s Special Operations Group, which led the operation, had arrested Pakistani terrorists, including Abdullah, alias Abu Hureira, a top commander who had infiltrated the Valley around 2010.During this probe, investigators found that Khargosh was believed to be a key member of the module.Officials said the terrorist had infiltrated the Valley and remained active in areas around Srinagar before shifting base with other module members outside the UT around 2022.The sources said while the case was being probed, the terrorist allegedly moved to Indonesia in 2024 after securing a passport using fake documents. From there, he fled to Saudi Arabia.In recent days, security forces have conducted search operations and raids at multiple locations across J&K and other states, including Rajasthan and Haryana, with the support of Central agencies.Several suspects have been detained and questioned to ascertain their role in the network.
