Bareta town in Mansa district observed a complete bandh on Tuesday in protest against the murder of its resident, MBBS student Kamaldeep Mittal, in Patiala on Monday. Notably, both the deceased and the accused belong to Bareta.A large number of residents staged a protest outside the Bareta police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.According to locals, the accused and the deceased were friends, and the accused had allegedly gone to Patiala on the pretext of meeting Kamaldeep.The victim’s father, Mahinderpal, is a retired teacher, while his sister is a doctor. “The family is innocent and has no enmity with anyone. The entire town observed a bandh today in support of the family and to seek justice. Residents have given the police one day to arrest the accused, failing which another protest will be held on Thursday,” said locals.The accused and his father are engaged in the goldsmith business. Some residents claimed that very few members of the goldsmith community attended the protest, which became a topic of discussion in the town.
