The Amritsar rural police have begun the process for the issuance of a red corner notice (RCN) against alleged gangster Varinder Singh Saidoke, suspected of running an extortion network across Punjab from Angola.Police sources said Saidoke has been using local associates to carry out firing incidents and issue threats to businessmen, doctors and political leaders to extort money. More than 12 cases are registered against him in Amritsar, with several others across Punjab.He is also wanted in the 2023 murder of alleged criminal Jarnail Singh at Sathiala village in the Beas area. Investigators believe Saidoke fled abroad on a forged passport after the killing. His gang allegedly arranged the fake passport through contacts in Uttar Pradesh. The police are probing whether the same network also prepared a forged passport for another wanted gangster, Jobanjit Singh alias Joban Arjan Manga, in November 2024.A Look-Out Circular (LOC) was issued against Saidoke in 2025, but his location remained unknown. His suspected presence in Angola came to light during the questioning of Arjan Manga, who was recently deported from Jakarta.The police suspect his gang has been collecting extortion money in Punjab and transferring it abroad. Saidoke is wanted in four sensational murder cases and has long been on the police’s wanted list.Investigators are now working to establish the full international network allegedly used by Saidoke to run operations from abroad and to trace the financial channels through which extortion money is being transferred. The proposed RCN is expected to aid his identification and arrest through international law enforcement agencies.
