A three-month pregnant woman was allegedly murdered at Burj Littan village in Mullanpur Dakha, Ludhiana, with her husband, father-in-law and grandfather-in-law booked in the case.The deceased, Harpreet Kaur of Mandi Ahmedgarh, had married Jaspreet Singh of Burj Littan on September 27, 2025. Jaspreet is a state-level kabaddi player. According to Harpreet’s parents, Jaspreet often “assaulted her for money and dowry”. She had subsequently left her matrimonial home and was staying with her parents in Mandi Ahmedgarh.Her parents said Jaspreet came to Mandi Ahmedgarh on Jattvibeday, convinced her to return with him and took her back to Burj Littan. They alleged that Jaspreet returned home drunk on Monday and assaulted her.Harpreet’s uncle, Joga Singh, said the family received a call around 2 am, informing them that Harpreet’s condition was serious and that she had allegedly attempted suicide. When her relatives reached the house, Harpreet was lying on a bed. They noticed marks on her neck and back and a broken toe. Her parents alleged that she had been beaten to death. Her unborn child also died, according to her uncle.Sudhar police station SHO Kulwinder Singh said a murder case had been registered against Jaspreet Singh, his father Jagdeep Singh and grandfather Narinder Singh. The husband and grandfather-in-law were detained. He said the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem report was received.
