Among the swanky new facilities are fancy urinals, kitted out with digital screens that the players must sign into before taking a leak.

This will enable staff members to quickly analyse each star’s hydration levels.

Playford Road had become a source of frustration for former boss Kieran McKenna, with the facilities having previously gone more than 20 years without significant upgrades.

Tractor Boys chairman Mark Ashton believes that the 12 month-renovation has made his side’s training base the best in the area.

Upon Monday’s official opening, Ashton told the East Anglian Daily Times: “There’s nothing like this in east of England. You probably have to go as far as Tottenham to find something on this level.

“Is it helping attract players? For sure. I remember standing with Liam Delap in a muddy field here trying to sell him the vision.

“Now I’m not having to tell prospective signings that there’s something going to come two years down the line, maybe, if we get planning permission.”

McKenna, 40, left Portman Road at the end of last season after guiding his side back to the Prem.

The Northern Irishman was swiftly replaced by former Wolves, Bournemouth and Strasbourg boss Gary O’Neil.

Ashton added: “This helped us get the manager too, by the way. We brought Gary here during the recruitment process because he needed to see if we were real with what we were talking about.

“People interview us as much as we interview them. When you’re trying to persuade people to leave clubs at the top level of world football you’ve got to have a training ground that is first class.”

In addition to fancy toilets, the renovation also includes a hydrotherapy pool, hyperbaric chambers and a cold plunge.

A better gym has been installed, in addition to a modern retina scan entry system and quick boot drying tech.

The expensive project, which Ashton revealed was “under budget” – includes a £1.2million equipment building.

Players will not be able to relax over a game of pool, however, with Ashton reiterating that they’re there to work.

Ashton said: “You’ll notice we haven’t included a pool table, for example.

“This is a performance centre that’s been designed to get the maximum out of our players and our staff. We’re giving them the best to underpin a no-excuse culture.”

Ipswich will begin their Prem campaign this Saturday as they host Jattvibederland.
