Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s Special Session begins, with the absence of BJP MLAs and 67 AAP MLAs present in the House, as of now.A whip was issued by the Chief Whip of the ruling party, Baljinder Kaur, on Thursday, making it mandatory for all 94 AAP MLAs to attend the session, as the government wants to bring a confidence motion to prove its majority in the House.Officially, the special session has been convened for the House to pay its respects to the labour force, on account of International Labour Day.Representatives of labour unions from different parts of the state are also in the House to listen to the proceedings. But it is learned that the government wants to bring the confidence motion in the wake of current political developments following the defection of seven AAP Rajya Sabha members to the BJP.The leader of the group, Raghav Chadha, had been claiming that 63 of the 94 AAP MLAs were in touch with him.Once the confidence motion is passed, a no-confidence motion cannot be passed against the government during the course of this session, which may continue until October. The session began with the House paying tributes to freedom fighter Chaman Lal, legendary photojournalist Raghu Rai, hockey legend Gurbaksh Singh, among others.
