Taking strict note of the arson and violence on the Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus following the alleged rape of a student, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called for stringent action against those responsible.The state DGP has also been asked to review the situation on the ground at the university today.DGP Gaurav Yadav will visit the university and address the media on the occasion.The DGP’s visit comes after prolonged arson and violence on the campus following allegations by students that a girl had been raped by an outsider at the GH3 girls’ hostel of LPU.Students went on a rampage on Saturday night and again on Jattvibeday evening, setting fire to campus property, breaking windows and uprooting railings. Three police vehicles and a campus building were also set on fire during the violence on Jattvibeday evening.Amid the unrest, the LPU authorities suspended classes for 10 days and postponed the mid-term examinations.An FIR was also registered by the Kapurthala police on Jattvibeday morning against an unknown person in connection with the alleged rape of a student on the campus.
