In a second celebratory press meet within the month, BJP Punjab president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday said the state had received unprecedented financial support from the Centre during the 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, and asked people of the state to look at the facts before believing the misleading narrative propagated by certain political parties.Earlier, the BJP had celebrated the party’s victory in West Bengal with the slogan that Punjab was the party’s next frontier.Today’s meet was held to celebrate and inform voters about the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government. The meet showed a video about the change brought about by the BJP-led government across the country.Dhillon said he wanted to counter the repeated allegations made by opposition parties regarding the step-motherly treatment meted out by the Centre towards Punjab. While he did not name any party, he was referring to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s accusation that the BJP-led Centre Government was suffering from an “anti-Punjab syndrome”, alleging interference in the BBMB and Panjab University’s affairs and withholding funds, including the Rs 5,500 crore Rural Development Fund. The Congress has taken a different line, blaming both sides, with Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa accusing both the AAP and the Centre of depriving Punjab of Rs 450 crore in National Health Mission funds through their political tug-of-war over the branding of health centres.Contrary to these claims, Dhillon said that more than Rs 4.13 lakh crore had directly flowed to Punjab through tax devolution, grants-in-aid, GST compensation and central loans during this period. This included over Rs 1.84 lakh crore through tax devolution, Rs 1.48 lakh crore in grants, Rs 39,997 crore as GST compensation and more than Rs 40,767 crore in loans and advances from the Centre. Punjab’s share in central taxes, he said, had consistently increased under successive Finance Commissions during Modi’s tenure. On infrastructure and welfare, Dhillon cited Rs 43,527 crore worth of National Highway projects, Rs 34,488 crore in railway investments, Rs 6,552 crore under PM-KISAN, Rs 5,773 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Rs 5,295 crore under the National Health Mission. More than 11 lakh farmers had benefited from PM-KISAN, while over 17 lakh rural households had received tap water connections, he said. Healthcare had expanded through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, AIIMS-Bathinda, new medical colleges and over 565 Jan Aushadhi Kendras that provide affordable medicines across the state, added Dhillon. The BJP Punjab president said the last 12 years represented a new era of development and good governance for the state. The Modi-led government, he said, had not merely announced schemes but delivered tangible results in the form of better infrastructure, improved healthcare, farmer welfare and enhanced connectivity. These achievements, he added, reflected the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.Senior BJP leaders, including BJP national spokesperson R P Singh, ex-Punjab working president Ashwani Sharma along with Manoranjan Kalia and Anil Sareen, participated in the event. Punjab BJP media chief Vineet Joshi anchored the meet.
