People gathered to pay their last respects to four members of a family who lost their lives in a tragic boat capsize in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan’s Keshi Ghat on April 10.At Gita Bhawan, relatives, friends and well-wishers offered floral tributes before a single framed photograph of the deceased — Madhur Behal, his mother Kavita Behal, his uncle Charanjit Behal and his aunt Chandan Behal.Meanwhile, the Bhog ceremony of Ishan Kataria was held at Gurudwara Dashmesh Nagar on Kacha Malak Road in Jagraon.Several speakers, including elected representatives and activists from social and religious organisations, paid homage to the victims and alleged that the tragedy was the result of systemic failure and negligence by authorities responsible for enforcing safety protocols.Leaders such as Ludhiana MP and Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh, AAP legislator Saravjit Kaur Manuke, Chairman of the Punjab Dalit Welfare Board Vijay Danav, former MLA S.R. Kaler, and Gopi Sharma expressed concern that officials had failed to ensure that boat operators provided life jackets to all devotees and tourists.Residents voiced deep anguish, saying that the loss had shattered an extended network of families due to human error and lapses in administrative responsibility.
