Bhagwant Mann on Thursday reiterated his allegation that the BJP was linked to the recent blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar, triggering fresh political controversy in the state.Addressing his first nukkad meeting near his residence in Jalandhar on the second day of his Shukrana Yatra, Mann said the blasts were “a sign of the BJP’s entry” into Punjab politics ahead of the Assembly elections.“These communal parties like the BJP and the Akali Dal make people fight for votes. The small blasts that took place in Jalandhar and Amritsar are a sign of the BJP’s entry. After winning in Bengal, they said, ‘Now Punjab next’. Wherever they go, they create divisions. They want Hindus and Sikhs to fight, but Punjab has always remained united,” the Chief Minister said.Mann had made similar remarks on Wednesday, claiming that the blasts were part of the BJP’s preparations for the Punjab elections. He had also appealed to people to maintain communal harmony. The BJP strongly condemned the remarks, questioning Mann’s handling of the law-and-order situation and asking whether he had any evidence to support his allegations. The Chief Minister also asserted that no one could weaken Punjab’s tradition of unity and brotherhood.During the Jalandhar leg of the Shukrana Yatra, Mann is scheduled to address gatherings in Adampur and Kartarpur before travelling to Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Faridkot. The Shukrana Yatra is a pre-election outreach campaign, during which Mann has been travelling across Punjab to thank people for supporting the state government’s recently passed anti-sacrilege law. The tour also includes visits to prominent Sikh shrines and public interactions on the provisions of the legislation.
