A day after the Staff Association of Dyal Singh Evening College said the Principal assured them of an April 28 meeting to discuss the controversial name change of the institution, the Principal wrote to Delhi University Vice-Chancellor asking if such a meeting can be called.The letter Dyal Singh Evening College Principal Bhawna Pandey wrote to DU VC Yogesh Singh today refers to the College Staff Association’s “repeated demands” to convene a meeting and discuss the matter.The Staff Association yesterday staged a protest outside the Principal’s office demanding that a previous proposal passed by the college governing body to rename Dyal Singh Evening College as Banda Bahadur College be withdrawn.Association president Mithilesh Kumar Singh told The Tribune yesterday that the agitation was called off on Principal’s assurance of an April 28 meeting to discuss the issue.“Now after assuring, the Principal is asking the VC for permission,” Singh said today.The letter Pandey has written to the DU VC says, “The Staff Association of Dyal Singh Evening College has repeatedly given representations for convening the staff council meeting to discuss the resolution of the governing body on the issue of the name change of the college. The staff association also organised a one-day dharna on the college premises regarding the proposed name change. The dharna was attended by two elected teachers, representatives of the executive council, Academic Council members and members of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association.”She then asked for VC directions as to whether the staff council meeting can be convened as per the ordinance of DU to discuss the issue of proposed name change of the college.
