The Vigilance Bureau (VB) caught a Kanungo (land record official) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 in Faridkot, VB officials confirmed on Tuesday.The accused, identified as Resham Singh, was arrested following a complaint filed by a local resident, Gurcharan Singh.According to VB officials, the complainant alleged the accused official had demanded a total bribe of Rs 80,000 in exchange for executing a court order to hand over possession of a piece of land.After negotiation, the deal was struck at Rs 40,000. The VB laid a trap based on the complaint and apprehended the official at the spot just as the money changed hands.A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station.
