The Ludhiana police have registered a case against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Chatarvir Singh alias Kamal Arora of Ward No. 20 for allegedly assaulting Parveen Kumar Singla, Superintending Engineer (SE) of the Building and Roads (B&R) branch of the Municipal Corporation. The FIR has been registered under sections related to obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties, damaging government property and other relevant provisions. The councillor has not been arrested so far.In his statement to the police, Singla said the incident occurred on June 10 while he was on duty at his office in Zone B of the Municipal Corporation. Contractor Vimal Tandon was also present in the office at the time for official work.According to Singla, councilor Chatarvir Singh, accompanied by an unidentified associate, entered his office and began abusing him over patchwork repairs of roads in his ward. He alleged that Singh then grabbed him by the collar and assaulted him, while the unidentified associate also joined in the scuffle. The duo allegedly tore official documents lying on the table and threw them away. When contractor Vimal Tandon attempted to intervene, other municipal officials, including JE Gaurav Kumar and SDO Balwinder Singh, rushed to the office after hearing the commotion. They rescued Singla and escorted the councillor towards the door in an attempt to calm the situation. However, Singla alleged that the councillor picked up a chair and hurled it at him in a fit of rage. He managed to dodge the chair, which struck an almirah, damaging both the chair and the almirah.Singla further alleged that the attack was part of a pre-planned conspiracy. Following an investigation, the police registered a case against Singh and his unidentified associate.Speaking to mediapersons, Singh denied the allegations and claimed that a false FIR had been lodged against him. He alleged that development works in his ward were not being carried out and that officials were not responding to his calls. Describing the incident as a minor argument that was being exaggerated, Arora said he would present evidence in court and file a complaint with the vigilance department seeking a probe against the officer.
