A day after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Zila Parishad member Dalvir Singh Kala Jawandha suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen at Bareta town, the police on Tuesday said two people had first conducted a recce and a youngster had later arrived to carry out the attack.However, the motive behind the murderous attack remains unknown as the victim is yet to give his statement, the police said.Kala was shot at point-blank range by an assailant when he was about to get into his jeep to return to his native village Kulrian from his commission agent’s shop at the grain market in Bareta town on Monday evening.As per some CCTV footage, the assailant, a youngster wearing shorts, had been waiting for Kala.He fired one shot at Kala and then attempted to fire two more shots in other directions, but the weapon apparently malfunctioned, as seen in the CCTV footage. The assailant was also seen fleeing on a motorcycle parked nearby.Budhlada DSP Sikander Singh said a police team had been sent to Ludhiana to record Kala’s statement today, but he had been taken to the operating theatre.“Kala is fine, and I briefly spoke to him over the phone,” the DSP said.A police officer claimed that Kala had two criminal cases registered against him in the past.Meanwhile, senior SAD leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia questioned the law and order situation in the state and targeted the state government.He also challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to nab the attackers within 24 hours or quit his post.Some local businessmen have called a meeting in Bareta on Wednesday to decide their future course of action.
