AROUND 75 Ministry of Defence passes were lost or stolen each week last year, fuelling fears for security at sensitive sites.

Some 3,921 went missing, with most lost.

But 281 were reported stolen, the most in seven years.

It comes amid heightened concerns over hostile states, terrorists and protest groups accessing bases.

Reported losses rose from 2,043 in 2020 to 3,640 in 2025.

Security expert Prof Alan Woodward, of Surrey University, said: “There have always been loses.

“But the scale suggests maybe lessons need to be re-learned.

“It’s obviously a security risk.

“Especially as modern passes tend to grant access to restricted areas via swiping.”

The MoD said it risk assesses all security breaches.
