The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday organised a commemorative function at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall to mark the anniversary of the July 4, 1955, police action at the Golden Temple during the Punjabi Suba agitation. The programme began with the bhog of Akhand Path, followed by Gurbani kirtan. Addressing the congregation, Giani Rajdeep Singh recalled the events of July 4, 1955, and said successive governments had attempted to weaken the Sikh community by targeting its central religious institutions, including Harmandir Sahib and Akal Takht. He said that while earlier attacks had come from foreign invaders, the 1955 police action was carried out by the government of independent India during the Punjabi Suba movement.
