The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will soon honour Sikh students who have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said on Saturday.
He added that the SGPC executive committee had granted in-principle approval to award Rs 1 lakh each to Sikh candidates selected for higher administrative services.
A felicitation programme in this regard is poised to be organised shortly.
Dhami said the SGPC was making sustained efforts to encourage Sikh youth to join administrative services through competitive examinations, adding that the body was already extending fee support to Amritdhari students, free education to Amritdhari girls, and annual assistance to needy students.
He added that, through Nishchai Academy, arrangements had been made to prepare Sikh youth for administrative and judicial services.
Besides this, Rs 5 crore had been earmarked in the budget to support Gursikh students who had cleared the preliminary stage of the civil services examination, and needed coaching for the mains examination, he said.
Dhami said honouring successful UPSC candidates would not only boost their morale, but also inspire other Sikh youth to aspire for administrative careers.
He added that programmes would also be organised to facilitate interaction between qualifying candidates and
students preparing at Nishchai Academy, so that aspirants could gain motivation and guidance.
He appealed to Sikh families to exhort their children to prepare for competitive examinations so that Sikh youth could serve society from positions of responsibility, while following
the path shown by the Gurus.
Rs 22.35L released for students’ education
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has released over Rs 22.35 lakh towards
the school and college fees of Sikligar and Vanjara Sikh children.
On the instructions of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, the amount was handed over to various schools and colleges by an SGPC team led by Ajaib Singh Abhiyasi, a member of the Dharam Prachar Committee. The funds will cover the fees of 151 Sikligar and Vanjara Sikh children studying at different institutions in Raipur and other parts of Chhattisgarh for the 2025–26 academic session.
Notably, the SGPC has been providing financial assistance to Sikligar Sikh children in the form
of school fees for several years to help make them self-reliant.
An SGPC delegation visited various schools and colleges in Raipur and across Chhattisgarh to directly deposit the fees of the Sikligar and Vanjara Sikh students studying there.
A representative said, as per a decision taken by the SGPC earlier, the fees for the entire academic year were deposited in one instalment to ensure proper utilisation.
