A fresh controversy has erupted over the live broadcast of Gurbani Kirtan from Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, with Galactic Television and Communications Pvt Ltd (GTC) Network alleging that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC) official YouTube feed was being deliberately degraded through the insertion of black frames and muting of audio, while the parallel feed carried by PTC Network remained uninterrupted. In a strongly worded communication to the SGPC, GTC Network managing director Rabindra Narayan claimed that the disruptions on the SGPC’s YouTube channel have been occurring consistently since August 15.“It was not isolated technical glitches. We have procured video recordings of multiple dates as evidence. Numerous members of the Sikh Sangat had also noticed the interruptions”, he said.According to the complaint, the viewers watching Gurbani Kirtan on the SGPC’s official YouTube platform encounter recurring black screens and periods of muted audio.”If this were merely a technical fault, it should affect all feeds originating from the same source. No such interruption was visible on the PTC broadcast of the same live feed. As the issue appears only on the SGPC’s own YouTube channel, it has raised serious questions and indicates that the problem is deliberate rather than accidental” he said. The GTC network has sought a written explanation from the SGPC within seven days, asking it to clarify why the interruptions are occurring and identify those responsible for any decisions related to the broadcast. It has also demanded an independent technical audit of the entire broadcast infrastructure and the preservation of all encoder, server and streaming logs related to the transmission. The network contended that such alleged interference runs contrary to the spirit of Sikh traditions and maryada, arguing that Gurbani is a universal spiritual heritage, should be accessible to all without restriction. It further claimed that any attempt to diminish the quality of SGPC’s own digital broadcast in a manner that benefits a single commercial broadcaster would amount to a betrayal of the global Sikh community.GTC has also offered to install technical assistance and modern broadcast equipment at its own expense and without conditions if the SGPC was unable to identify or rectify the problem. The communication also cautioned that all video evidence relating to the matter had been securely preserved and that, in the absence of a satisfactory response, GTC would consider pursuing “appropriate legal and Panthic remedies”.The latest allegations are likely to intensify scrutiny of the SGPC’s digital broadcasting infrastructure and reignite the broader debate over control, access and ownership of Gurbani telecasts from Sri Harmandir Sahib. The SGPC had filed a copyright infringement suit against the GTC rebroadcast. The Delhi High Court has refused to issue an interim order to stop GTC network from broadcasting or rebroadcasting the live Gurbani feed. : The matter is scheduled for further proceedings on September 24, 2026The dispute comes amid a long-running debate over the telecast of Gurbani from the Golden Temple and the question of who should have the right to broadcast the sacred proceedings. The SGPC’s reaction is still awaited.
