The Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday declared the Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN) a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).Rooting the move in India’s ongoing fight against terror, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that, in pursuit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vision of zero tolerance against terror”, the Shahzad Bhatti Network had been declared a terrorist organisation under the UAPA.The group is involved in smuggling arms, explosives and narcotics across borders, apart from inciting youths and petty criminals into terrorism.Targeting India’s democratic structure and the fabric of communal harmony, the syndicate also published hateful digital content. On the eve of Independence Day this year, security agencies carried out a major multi-state crackdown against the ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti Network and busted its terror syndicate.Over 253 people were detained across 14 states, while more than 80 FIRs and over 200 arrests were recorded against SBN as part of the “zero tolerance” policy towards cross-border terrorism.
