The thunderstorm is one of many ravaging Mexico state Oaxaca’s rainy season which started just weeks ago.
The lightning struck a Viva plane flying across Mexico from fishing town Puerto Escondido to the capital Mexico City.
Coastal city Puerto Escondido sees some of the nation’s highest rates of thunder and lightning.

Viva confirmed to local media: “A lightning strike did occur.”
The airline added: “The aircraft was never at any point in danger, not in the slightest. It reached its destination without any problems.”
A commercial aircraft is struck by lightning on average once a year, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The vast majority of incidents are harmless to passengers – but nonetheless terrifing to witness.

One passenger said: “Basically nothing happens, but it’s still impressive and quite frightening mid-flight.”
Mexico saw a tragic plane disaster just last month.
The aircraft spun out of control upon takeoff before plunging to the ground, killing everyone on board.
Shocking footage showed the aircraft begin angling to one side before suddenly plummeting from the sky in a terrifying nose-dive.
All four passengers died when the plane hit the ground in the farmland of Santa Ana Xalmimilulco in Mexico.
One victim was initially pulled from the wreckage alive, but later died from their injuries.
The dead have been named as Paulo Antonio Vélez V., Marcos Omar Martínez Tavera, Ramsés Olin Zaragoza Burgos and Emilio Gil Ramírez.
