The VCK, a long-time ally of the Left parties, is expected to formally announce its support to the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday, following the stand of the communist parties.Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan has already said that his party’s decision would align with the Left parties, which have extended support to TVK in government formation.TVK MLA-designate Marie Wilson expressed confidence that party leader Vijay would become Chief Minister soon.Despite five days having passed since the election results were announced and TVK’s victory in securing 108 seats, party members’ enthusiasm continues as they await a key announcement.VCK leader Vanniarasu, a close aide of the party founder, indicated that the party is keen on securing a share in power, which TVK is reportedly prepared to consider.TVK president Vijay, who visited senior leaders of the Left parties on Friday, is expected to call on VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan in connection with government formation.Tight security arrangements have been made at the VCK office in Ashok Nagar ahead of the expected meeting.TVK, which has 108 seats but is 10 short of a majority, had earlier reached out to Congress, CPI, CPI(M) and VCK—all DMK allies—seeking support to form the government after winning its maiden Assembly election in Tamil Nadu held on April 23.Congress has five seats, while the other three parties have two MLAs each in the 234-member House.Five Congress MLAs were camping in Hyderabad on Saturday in an apparent move by the party to prevent any poaching attempts.Congress MLA P Viswanathan from Melur, who was formerly the AICC in-charge of party affairs in Telangana, was leading the group of five MLAs during their stay in Hyderabad, party sources said.The Congress has already declared its support for TVK, and Viswanathan is likely to become a minister if a TVK government is formed, the sources added.Meanwhile, after a three-day stay at a Puducherry resort, AIADMK MLAs met party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence in Chennai on Saturday.More than 30 AIADMK MLAs had been kept at the resort in the Union territory, allegedly to prevent cross-voting or defections, as TVK continued efforts to shore up numbers to form the government after emerging as the single largest party.AIADMK sources said Palaniswami will chair a meeting of legislators to discuss the party’s next move amid political uncertainty in government formation.Senior AIADMK leaders, including C Vijayabaskar, K P Anbalagan and B Valarmathi, arrived at his residence.AIADMK sources added that the meeting will also discuss ally AMMK’s allegations against TVK over the use of a “forged” support letter to stake claim for government formation. — with PTI
