Muktsar police have arrested eight members of a family from Haryana, including six women, for their alleged involvement in an inter-state gang of thieves and traced property worth about Rs 50 lakh allegedly purchased with the proceeds of thefts. The police have also recovered 250 gm of stolen gold ornaments.According to the police, the gang allegedly used proceeds from stolen gold and valuables to purchase a Rs 20 lakh plot in Rohini, Delhi, a Rs 24-lakh plot and two shops worth around Rs 6 lakh in Indergarh village in Rohtak, Haryana.The police have so far traced around 380 gm of gold ornaments, of which 250 gm has been recovered. Another 130 gm of gold was allegedly pledged with a gold finance company against a loan, and the gold has been frozen by the company, the police said.The investigation began after 90-100 gm of gold and Rs 14,000 in cash were stolen from a house in Malout on the night of August 6.During questioning, the police found that the gang was allegedly linked to six other theft cases reported in Muktsar district. One of the alleged key members, Das alias Satish, is already lodged in jail in an NDPS case registered at the Lambi police station. He is facing 15 cases registered against him in Haryana, while Tana is already facing six cases in Haryana.The police said the investigation was still underway and more stolen property and other details were expected to emerge.Those arrested are Tana, Robin, Kamlesh, Preeti, Pinki, Kavita, Manisha and Anarkali, all from Bhiwani and Rohtak districts of Haryana.Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana said seven thefts had been reported in areas falling under the Lambi and Muktsar Sadar police stations since May. “All the incidents took place at night, and the thieves did not leave any trail. Separate teams were formed to crack the cases, using technical and human intelligence. After analysing CCTV footage from a radius of around 80 km, the police got a lead that took them to Dabwali, and eight persons, who are all relatives, have been arrested. In all, property worth around Rs 1 crore has been recovered and identified, including the recovered gold ornaments.”
