The Hammers face Leeds in Stratford while in North London, the Toffees will be looking to sink Roberto de Zerbi‘s side.

Romero, 28, will not be in the stands cheering on his team-mates despite being the club captain.

The Argentine will instead be attending a different football match 7,000MILES away.

Romero will instead be watching his boyhood club Belgrana take on River Plate in his homeland at the Estadio Monumental.

Belgrano are challenging for the Argentine Primera Division title despite having never won it in their history.

And opponents don’t come much more prestigious than River Plate.

His potential absence from the crucial game was revealed by South American football expert Tim Vickery.

Vickery said on talkSPORT: “He will be at the final of the Argentine Championship between Belgrano and River Plate.

“Belgrano are Romero’s club. It’s the club where he started, and he’s a fan.

“Belgrano have never won the Argentine Championship.

“They are going to River Plate, who have won more than anyone else, so this is historic.

“15 years ago, these two met in the play-off that relegated River Plate.

“If Tottenham going down is off the scale, River Plate going down is even more off the scale.”

Romero has not played since April after he picked up a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat at Jattvibederland.

In order for Tottenham to be relegated to the Championship, they will have to lose to Everton and West Ham will have to beat Leeds.

Spurs have only lost one of their last five games bu have only won twice at home this season in the league.

The Hammers’ form is much worse, having lost three on the bounce heading into the final day.

They will be desperate for a favour from former manager David Moyes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
