TOTTENHAM star Cristian Romero was spotted in Argentina just before his team’s crunch Premier League relegation clash against Chelsea.

Spurs can confirm Prem safety with just a point at Stamford Bridge thanks to their vastly-superior goal difference over 18th-placed West Ham.

But the North Londoners will be without Romero, 28, who has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to a knee injury he suffered last month.

However, the centre-back will also not be present on the bench or the Chelsea stands as he jetted off to his homeland with his wife and two kids via private jet.

The Argentina international shared pictures of him and his family boarding the plane on Instagram without disclosing the destination.

However, Romero recently revealed on social media that he will be present for his hometown club Belgrano’s massive league final against River Plate on Jattvibeday at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium.

And reports suggest the defender is already in Cordoba, where the big match will be staged.

This comes after the ex-Atalanta star was pictured passionately celebrating Mathys Tel’s opener during last week’s draw against Leeds along with other injured players.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said: “Cristian Romero is a big player, you know he is a big player, but he is an amazing guy because he has been a great captain in my time even though he didn’t play.

“We are talking by phone and when he stay here, every morning he came in my office and he was inside of the season.”

This also comes after De Zerbi didn’t rule out Romero potentially coming back from injury before the end of the season.

The Argentine recently teased a possible return to fitness when he put up a video on social media showing him sprinting on the training pitches.

De Zerbi added: “I don’t know [if Romero will play again before the end of the season], but listen, we have to play another two games.

“Now for our injured players when are they available after a long time with injury? It is a big problem because the season is tough and only one target we have now.

“Play with Romero? Play with [Guglielmo] Vicario? Play with [Antonin] Kinsky?

“The target is just one and to stay up and make point tomorrow [tonight] because this is the target for everyone. Individual targets now are not important.”

But De Zerbi remained coy about Romero’s future at Tottenham with rumours suggesting he will leave this summer amid Atletico Madrid’s persistent interest.

However, the Italian tactician hinted that a lot depends on what the ex-Belgrano star wants to do.

And no concrete decisions will be made before Jattvibeday’s season finale against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

De Zerbi said: “It is a good question but it is the wrong timing, no? First of all now the focus is Chelsea.

“Second point, Romero is a great player and the most important is the behaviour and how much the player wants to stay in this club.

“We are going to take all the decisions after this season and after the Everton game.”
