Mr Trump took to Truth Social on Monday, describing Sir Keir’s decision to appoint Lord Mandelson as US Ambassador as “a really bad pick”
However, he added that there was “plenty of time to recover” for the Prime Minister.
Speaking to the BBC on Thursday, Trump explained what he meant by the post, citing North Sea oil and UK immigration policy.
He said: “If he opened the North Sea and if his immigration policies became strong, which right now they’re not, he can recover, but if he doesn’t, I don’t think he has a chance.”

The US leader also told the broadcaster that next week’s state visit could help mend the relationship between the two nations.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will jet off to America for a four-day state visit next Monday with UK and US relations at an all-time low.
But Trump said the visit could “absolutely” fix the special relationship and called the monarch a “fantastic man”.
“He’s a brave man, and he’s a great man. They would absolutely be a positive,” Trump said.
Trump – who was recently welcomed on an “unprecedented” second State Visit to the UK – has always been very supportive of Charles.
The King will meet with Trump in a private meeting and will deliver a broadcasted speech to 535 lawmakers in Congress during his stay.
But Charles will be travelling across The Pond amid an ongoing war of words between Sir Keir Starmer and the US President.
Trump has publicly blasted the PM’s response to the Iran crisis, saying he was “not happy with the UK” and added “this is not Winston Churchill we’re dealing with.”
The President has also slammed Starmer and the UK Government on immigration and North Sea oil previously.
Last November, the President warned Britain “you won’t have a country left” unless illegal migrants were swiftly deported.
He advised posting the military on the coast during a wide-ranging rant about the current state of the UK.
The following month, Trump said Britain is “allowing people just to come in unchecked, unvetted”.
And after touching down for a four-day visit to Scotland last summer, Trump also said a “horrible invasion” was taking place in Europe which needs to stop.
He said: “On immigration, you better get your act together.”
Trump has also previously demanded that the UK take a “drill, baby drill” approach to North Sea oil, saying it was a “treasure chest” for the UK.
He called on Sir Keir Starmer to “incentivise” the drillers which could drive up UK growth and bring about lower energy bills.
The US leader also hit out at the “high taxes” imposed on oil and gas which were first brought in following a rise in prices at the start of the Ukraine war.
