At a time when NRIs are exercising much constraint in making any investments back home, third-time UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has donated Rs 2.5 crore for various development works in his native Raipur Farala village in Jalandhar Cantonment Assembly segment here.MP from Slough and Chairman of the Defence Committee in the UK, Dhesi was on a trip to Punjab recently. Along with his paternal uncle and Aam Aadmi Party leader Paramjit Singh Raipur, he met Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and discussed issues that the NRIs were facing. For his efforts for village development, he was honoured at the gurdwara of Raipur Farala village on Tuesday.Among the major projects planned for the village is the construction of mini Primary Health Centre at a cost of Rs 55 lakh and an interlocking tile road from the school towards the gurdwara, for which a grant of approximately ₹20 lakh has been announced. In addition, ₹5 lakh has been allocated for the improvement of the school park.A further ₹20 lakh grant has been sanctioned for interlocking tiles on other roads. Around ₹40 lakh has also been provided for the construction of an interlocking tile road connecting the village with the main road. Other proposed works include the construction of a concrete platform at the grain market, for which approximately ₹80 lakh has been earmarked.Additional funds have also been allocated for the construction of a community hall, development of a pond and improvement of other village facilities. Grants of approximately ₹11.5 lakh for a pond, ₹11.40 lakh for another development project, ₹5 lakh for gym equipment, and ₹2.5 lakh for school furniture too have been allocated.During the visit, Dhesi’s father Jaspal Singh Dhesi, along with other members of the village community, also contributed financially towards local development. A donation of ₹3 lakh was made towards the development of the gurdwara.The village panchayat, former panchayat representatives, development committee members and prominent residents welcomed and honoured Dhesi.
