The United States conducted a new round of airstrikes early Monday targeting Iran after announcing the death of another two American service members, hitting around a northwestern city believed to be home to underground missile bases. A US soldier missing after a Iranian missile attack at a US military base in Jordan has been found dead while another trooper died in Iraq. These two deaths are in addition to the demise of two US soldiers in Jordan on July 17.Hours after the death of troops, the US planned to send additional F-16 and F-35 fighter jets from bases in Europe, as well as additional aerial re-fueling tankers, according to media reports citing US officials. Iran responded to the attacks by launching an attack targeting Bahrain, the home of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, and Kuwait. Both sides have targeted civilian infrastructure relied on by millions of people.“We hit them very hard again tonight,” US President Donald Trump said about the ninth day of strikes. “And we did that in honour of” the soldiers killed, he added.The US military’s Central Command announced a new round of strikes early Monday, while Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported that the American strikes killed at least one person around Tabriz, which is believed to host underground missile bases run by the IRGC.As the strikes began, a vessel caught fire early Monday in the Strait of Hormuz after being hit by a projectile near the coastline of Oman, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said.Meanwhile, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Pakistan for talks with the country’s top leadership amid the escalating military confrontation between Iran and the US.Houthis declare naval blockade against S ArabiaYemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Monday they were imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, a move that threatens to escalate the conflict in the region and disrupt global energy supply and trade beyond the Gulf.The Houthis’ armed forces in a statement said they were declaring “a maritime embargo against the criminal Saudi enemy, based on the equation of ‘an eye for an eye’, effective immediately”.They said the decision was in response to what they called “an unjust siege” imposed on Yemen by the Saudis.
