The US navy has captured a merchant vessel as part of its blockade of Iranian ports.The 900-ft-long MV Touska, a Iran-flagged cargo vessel was intercepted, its engine room was hit, and US marine commandos boarded the vessel and took control, the US Central Command said on Monday.Iran reacted sharply, saying it would ‘soon respond’ after a US warship captured Touska as it was transiting Gulf of Oman. “We warn that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond and retaliate against this armed piracy and the US military,” said a spokesperson for the military’s central command centre.It has been a week since the US has been carrying out a blockade of Iranian ports. It said the Iran-flagged cargo vessel was attempting to sail toward an Iranian port.Guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted MV Touska as it transited the north Arabian Sea enroute to Bandar Abbas, Iran. American forces issued multiple warnings and informed the Iranian-flagged vessel it was in violation of the US blockade.Touska’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings over a six-hour period, the USS Spruance directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room. The Touska’s propulsion was disabled by firing several rounds from the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 Gun into the merchant vessels engine room.“US Marines – who were on board another warhsip USS Tripoli — later boarded the vessel , which remains in US custody,” the US Navy posted on X .American forces acted in a deliberate, professional, and proportional manner to ensure compliance. Since the blockade’s commencement, US forces have directed 25 commercial vessels to turn around or return to an Iranian port.In Washington DC US President Donald Trump said the Touska, tried to get past our naval blockade, and it did not go well. The US Navy and gave them fair warning to stop. The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room. “The Touska is under US Treasury sanctions because of their prior history of illegal activity. We have full custody of the ship, and are seeing what’s on board,” Trump said.
