Ahead of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s arrival at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) grounds, BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu on Saturday “gifted” a bottle of liquor to the CM outside Gate No. 8 of the university.Holding the bottle and tomatoes in his hands, Bittu said Mann should enjoy his liquor and let AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal run the state from Delhi. At a hurriedly convened press conference outside Gate No. 8, Bittu said he had also brought the remaining eggs and tomatoes that his party workers had thrown at his cavalcade on Friday.Fearing that the ruling party might prevent him from speaking to the media citing security concerns, Bittu’s media team sent text messages to journalists, asking them to cover the event minutes before the Chief Minister’s arrival.Bittu also alleged that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was opposing the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ by displaying black flags and demanded that such protests be stopped immediately. He warned that if the ruling party created obstacles in the BJP’s yatra, it would face similar consequences. When asked whether an FIR would be registered against him for his gesture, Bittu said he had not attacked anyone, unlike the AAP leaders who, he alleged, had attacked BJP workers on Friday. He said that if an FIR was to be registered against him, similar action should be taken against AAP MLAs and leaders for allegedly attacking leaders of other political parties.“I can also attack in a similar manner, but the BJP can never stoop so low,” Bittu said.Bittu was detained by the Ludhiana police and taken to an undisclosed location.
