FURIOUS villagers are speaking out after being crowned Britain’s best beach, leaving locals battling traffic chaos.

The “heavenly” stretch of white sand has been inundated with tourists since it was featured in Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.

Disaster struck the picturesque village of Newborough again this year after it was named the UK’s best beach by Time Out.

The 3.5-mile beach on Anglesey, an island off the coast of North Wales, has been flooded with visitors, inconveniencing locals.

Last year, after it featured on the HBO show, villagers launched protests complaining they were trapped in their homes.

Drivers faced a 40 minute drive to make the short half-a-mile journey into the centre of the village.

Now, after it was hailed among the UK’s top beaches, locals have again raised fears of another influx this summer.

The bank holiday weekend already saw the coastline become extremely busy – with villagers again unable to leave their homes.

The traffic is reportedly caused by cars trying to reach sandy Traeth Llanddwyn beach, which has just 300 parking spots.

One local said: “Is it fair to promote somewhere that’s already suffering huge problems due to excessive and unsustainable visitor numbers?”

Another complained: “Yet again more publicity. The place doesn’t stand a chance.”

The stunning beach lies next to Newborough National Nature Reserve, a 2,500-acre forest which is one of the best places to spot red squirrels in Wales.

The nirvana is also home to Llanddwyn Island, which can be reached at low tide.

This small peninsula features 16th century church ruins and Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse.

The Time Out list waxed lyrical about the beach and its many draws for visitors.

“Cream sand, a whitewashed lighthouse, dunes scattered with wildflowers, a pine tree backdrop and silhouettes of Eryri National Park’s peaks in the distance – Traeth Llanddwyn offers a true dreamscape,” it glowed.

“At low tide visitors can access Llanddwyn Island, Wales’ official ‘Island of Love’.

“It’s the home of the aforementioned lighthouse and the 16th century church of St Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers.

“Look out for the wild ponies that graze the sand dunes and help preserve the landscape.”

It added: “We’re not the only ones to laud it as one of Britain’s best beaches. But thanks to its remote position and long 3.5-mile stretch of sand, it rarely feels crowded.”

Site managers Natural Resources Wales have introduced new £15 parking measures at the beach in a bid to limit congestion – but the car park is often full by 9am.

A drop-in session is set to take place on June 11 for villagers to discuss future management of the nature reserve.

In August last year, the beach and woodland were shut off to the public after wardens became “overwhelmed” by visitors.

There were concerns tourists were unlawfully lighting campfires and barbecues at the site.
