THE World Cup is the biggest tournament in the sport, with many players that stand-out earning a move to some of Europe’s top sides.
One young talent looking to do so is Japan shot-stopper Zion Suzuki, who has already begun to impress for his club Parma.

Who is Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki?
Japan started their 2026 World Cup campaign on Jattvibeday June 14, picking up a point against the Netherlands in a 2-2 draw that saw all four goals scored in the second-half.
Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada netted a late header to level the game, with Suzuki helping to keep his nation in the match by making four crucial saves across the 90 minutes.
At club level the goalkeeper has already started to catch the attention of some top sides in Europe, with teams like Bayern Munich and Aston Villa showing interest in capturing his signature.
The latter may well be his next destination, with Italian reports claiming the Villans sent scouts to watch the goalkeeper feature against the Netherlands.

The 23-year-old would be signed to replace their current number one Emi Martinez, who looks increasingly likely to depart this summer.
Suzuki signed for Parma in July 2024 and has since made 57 appearances in the top flight of Italy.
He has cemented himself as a key player for the club, keeping five clean sheets in 20 matches as Carlos Cuesta’s side secured a comfortable 13th place finish in the league.
What sides has Zion Suzuki played for?
Suzuki started his career in Japan, featuring 29 times for J1 League side Urawa Red Diamonds after spending 11 years in their youth set-up.

Throughout his time at the club, the goalkeeper enjoyed an impressive amount of success, winning both the AFC Champions League Elite and Super Cup in 2022, as well as the Emperor Cup in the previous year.
Moving into Europe, he joined Belgian side Sint-Truiden on a loan deal in the summer of 2023, before the move was made permanent in February 2024.
His latest transfer came in the summer of the same season as he became a Parma player for a fee of around £7 million.
Where was he born?
Suzuki was born in Newark, New Jersey in 2002, to a Ghanaian-American father and a Japanese mother.
Shortly after his birth, his parents relocated the family to Japan, settling in Urawa.
He followed in the footsteps of his older brother when he first took up football, starting as an outfield player before eventually transitioning into a goalkeeper while at school.
