A woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Dogar Basti in Faridkot was suspended after a video went viral showing her five-year-old granddaughter tied to a gate in the scorching heat on Wednesday.The accused, identified as Sarbjit Kaur, was posted as a “Mahila Mitra” at the Sadar police station. She allegedly tied the girl’s hands and feet and left her outside the house for several hours.The police revealed that the child’s parents are currently living in Portugal, leaving the girl under the care of her grandmother.The cruelty came to light when neighbours noticed the child crying in the sun. When they attempted to intervene and knocked the door, Sarbjit Kaur initially refused to open it. As residents tried to free the girl themselves, the ASI reportedly came out and took the child inside the house.As the video of the incident went viral on social media, the Faridkot police administration took swift action. SSP Dr Pragya Jain issued immediate orders to suspend the ASI.DSP Tarlochan Singh said, “The behaviour shown toward the child is unacceptable. We have reported the matter to the Child Welfare Committee for further legal proceedings.”
