Allegedly angered by the referral of their patient to another hospital, two unidentified men attacked a woman doctor near Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Hospital on Friday morning.Victim Jot Noor, an anaesthetist, was allegedly slapped and pushed around before she managed to lock herself in her car.Alleging inaction even after 24 hours, hospital staff suspended OPD services and staged a protest inside the hospital.Dr Noor was on her way to the hospital for duty after parking her car near the Forest Department office on Friday morning when two persons approached her and asked about her profession. When she said she was an anaesthetist, the duo started pushing and beating her. Terrified, the doctor managed to lock herself in her car, after which the attackers fled. The doctor informed her colleagues and filed a written complaint with the Dera Bassi police. Doctors at the hospital alleged that even after 24 hours of filing the complaint, neither any action was taken against the accused nor were any security measures put in place for the staff.During the protest, doctors said this was not the first instance of misbehaviour or assault on hospital staff. They alleged that the lack of strict action against offenders had encouraged further attacks on the medical community. The hospital staff warned that until the attackers are arrested and legal action is taken against them and the safety of the doctors is ensured, the OPD services will remain suspended. However, the emergency services will continue.Dera Bassi SMO Dr Dharminder Singh said a complaint had been given to the Dera Bassi police and a case had been registered. On May 16, 2025, a clash erupted between two groups of youth from Mukandpur village inside the hospital during which the premises were vandalised.Terrified patients and their attendants fled for safety in the middle of the night.
