The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) needs to recalibrate its strategy and work like a democratic organisation where everyone has an equal say, said party’s Anandpur Sahib MP Malwinder Singh Kang here on Saturday.“Had it been so, Sandeep Pathak would not have quit AAP,” he added.In an interview with The Tribune, Kang said a more democratic set up and distribution of responsibilities alone could stem the defections from the party. “A better coordination is required by the party leadership with all leaders, including MPs and MLAs,” he added.A day after seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs joined the BJP, Kang said it was time that AAP started acting like a political party.“Sandeep Pathak would have never quit the party had the AAP leadership stayed in touch with him. No one in the party was in touch with him for a year,” he said, adding that initially, after the AAP government was formed, Chadha got unbridled power and misused it.“Ideally, the power should be shared and not concentrated in a few hands. This mistake of giving unbridled power to one person has cost us dear. It should not be repeated,” he said. Till Kang contested and won the election from Anandpur Sahib, he was considered the most prominent Sikh face of the party, second only to CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.Kang, who has risen from student politics, was originally with the BJP.It was during the course of the year-long farmers’ struggle on the outskirts of Delhi in 2020-21 that he resigned from the BJP in solidarity with the protesting farmers.“I am pro-Punjab and will always be a part of Punjab politics that benefits the state and our people. I have no greed for anything else,” he said, when questioned about his own political stand and if other defections were to follow.
