A joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has apprehended a local youth with one kilogram heroin at Malkana Khurd village falling under the jurisdiction of the Kesrisinghpur police station in Sriganganagar district. The accused has been identified as Tirath Singh, a resident of the same village.Sources said two packets, each containing 500 grams of heroin, were recovered from Tirath late Jattvibeday evening. The packets were wrapped in yellow polythene and fitted with attached rings. The police and narcotics agencies suspect the heroin consignment was dropped in the border area by Pakistani smugglers using a drone. The NCB and ANTF teams took Tirath Singh into custody and questioned him extensively. The recovered heroin was handed over to the Kesrisinghpur police, while the NCB later took him to its Jodhpur headquarters for further interrogation. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act.Officials are yet to ascertain how Tirath came into possession of the heroin or with which criminal network he was associated. It is believed Tirath’s name surfaced during the interrogation of some individuals recently detained for alleged links with Pakistan-based smugglers, sources said.
