A 24-year-old man was killed and his younger brother seriously injured after two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire at them over an old enmity in Bishanpur Jattan village near Kapurthala  last night.The deceased has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, alias Labba (24), a resident of Bishanpur Jattan. His younger brother, Harshdeep, also suffered bullet injuries and was rushed to Civil Hospital, Kapurthala, where he was admitted for treatment.The firing triggered panic in the village. Soon after receiving information, DSP Dr Sheetal Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The police took possession of Lovepreet’s body and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.A forensic team was also called to the scene and collected evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the role of the accused.DSP Sheetal said the identities of the persons allegedly involved in the shooting had been established. He said police teams were conducting raids at suspected locations to apprehend them and expressed confidence that the accused would be arrested soon.The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the attack and the motive behind the shooting.
