The Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development is set to establish a state-of-the-art government-owned and managed old age home (senior citizens’ home) in Mohali.The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has allotted 2.92 acres of land in Sector 78 for this project.Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr Baljit Kaur said, “Our elderly are our invaluable asset and guiding light. At this stage of life, caring for them is the foremost duty of the government.”Kaur further added that to expedite the project, a letter has been issued to the Estate Officer (Plots), GMADA, PUDA Bhawan, Mohali.They have been requested to complete all required formalities for handing over physical possession of the allotted site to the District Social Security Officer, Mohali, at the earliest, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. This will pave the way for the immediate commencement of construction work, added Kaur.
