Four state hockey players — three from Jalandhar — have been selected for the Indian junior men’s hockey team for the upcoming Junior Asia Cup, while one player from the state has earned a place in the Indian junior women’s hockey team.The Junior Asia Cup for both men and women is scheduled to be held in China from August 30 to September 13.Hockey Punjab president Nitin Kohli and general secretary Amrik Singh Powar said Prabhdeep Singh (Mithapur), Manmeet Singh Rai (Khusropur), Lavnur Singh (PAP Jalandhar) and Gursewak Singh (Round Glass Academy-Gurdaspur) have been selected for the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team.Meanwhile, Sukhvir Kaur of Bathinda has been selected for the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team.The selection of five players for the national junior squads is being seen as a significant achievement for the state.Kohli and Powar congratulated the selected players and wished the Indian junior teams success in the upcoming Junior Asia Cup. They expressed confidence that the players from Punjab would make a valuable contribution to the national teams and bring laurels to the country and the state.
