Covers of four saroops of Guru Granth Sahib were damaged after a fire broke out at Gurdwara Dhabsar Sahib in Jassi Pauwali village during a dust storm on Thursday evening.According to the gurdwara’s Granthi, Gurmeet Singh, the fire started when a bulb short-circuited during evening prayers. On noticing the flames, sewadars immediately moved the saroops of Guru Granth Sahib outside, preventing major damage. However, the covers of four holy saroops were burned in the incident.After receiving information, Baba Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, visited the gurdwara on Friday and inspected the site.The Jathedar has summoned Gurdwara Management Committee to appear before him on June 14, to explain the circumstances that led to the incident.Appealing to all gurdwara management committees, he urged them to avoid installing unnecessary electrical equipment over the next two to three months. He also appreciated the Granthi’s prompt action in handling the situation.He further stated that the damaged saroops would be sent to Goindwal Sahib for prescribed religious procedures.
